Importance of an accurate and certified translation
When applying for a credential evaluation report, whether for academic, professional, immigration or employment purposes, an accurate translation is crucial so that IEE can make a correct assessment of your credentials to help you achieve your goals.
If your documents are not in English, which is the language required by IEE and the majority of other evaluation agencies, we would require a full translation of your documents.
You need to know the importance of obtaining an accurate translation. IEE doesn’t require just a translation of your documents obtained by Google Translate (or any other translation system on the internet). IEE requires a full, official English document translation that is certified as complete and accurate by the translator, and includes the translator’s certification of competency.
The Hidden Dangers of Translation Errors
An inaccurate translation can have a serious impact on your evaluation report as it can lead to misinterpretations. If the translation is incorrect, the evaluation will be based on incorrect information which would unfortunately lead to inaccurate results on your evaluation report and this may lead to missing that job opportunity you were looking for or not entering the university of your dreams to continue your studies. With an inaccurate translation, it can lead to misunderstanding the academic degrees or diplomas, interpretation of the major or field of study or misinterpretation of your coursework if you apply for a course-by-course analysis.
An example of this would be a teacher looking for a license to teach in the US, or a nurse looking for a license to practice nursing. Licensing boards in the US require a course-by-course analysis, which is a complete assessment of their transcript of records to know how specialized the applicant is, and additionally in the case of nursing, how many clinical hours the applicant took as part of their nursing education program. If the translation has an inaccurate number of clinical hours, or the name of the courses are not translated correctly, the licensing boards may reject their application, assuming the applicant was lacking clinical hours or coursework in the major when in reality, it was a matter of translation.
Who Else Needs Certified Translations and Why?
It is also important to point out that it is not only the evaluation agency that needs a translation, but you would also need to consider that the receiving institution where you intend to send your evaluation report will require an English translation of your documents in order to match your credentials with your evaluation report.
An example of this would be if you are applying for an evaluation report for immigration purposes. For documents submitted to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that are not in English, an American Translators Association (ATA) certified translation is required which must be a complete and accurate translation accompanied by a signed statement from the translator stating to their competence and the translation’s accuracy. USCIS requires a credential evaluation report accompanied by the translations and original documents.
What is an ATA-certified translation?
At this point you might be thinking, “Now I not only need to look for an evaluation agency, but also for a translation company that translates my documents”, or “This is an additional step so I’m further away from accomplishing my dreams.” I would like to take your stress away by telling you that IEE not only offers credential evaluations, but also ATA-certified translations for your educational and legal documents, acknowledged worldwide with word-to-word accuracy and 100% USCIS acceptance.
What is the American Translator’s Association? The ATA is a professional association in the United States, whose mission is to promote recognition of professional translators and interpreters. For that reason, you can rest assured that at IEE, your translations are completed in compliance with ATA standards for accuracy and reliability. An ATA-certified translation guarantees credibility that your documents meet rigorous professional standards and will be accepted internationally.
